Celebrating Ocean Week at CHARS

June 7th

Staff at the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS), together with community fishers and teachers, will be engaging students from Kiilinik School for a day of interactive learning, including fish dissections in the community lab and exploring the Ocean, Freshwater, and Us giant floor map with augmented reality!

June 1st

Focused on learning about the Sustainable Blue Economy, individuals will have the opportunity to go on the land with local science experts Viventum, and learn about the land and the ocean through various science activities, all relevant to their community.

Umingmak Frolics

May 10th – May 20th

The Umingmak Frolics is a longtime Tradition for Iqaluktutiak, a celebration of spring and being together as friends, family, and community. The Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition provided an Ocean Week Canada grant to support this year’s festival, including an elders lunch with local chef Andy Poisson, as well as ocean/sea ice-themed children’s activities.
