Ocean Week Canada 2024

We are excited to share with you the Ocean Week Canada 2024 impact report! This year’s celebration from June 1-9 was filled with inspiring events and meaningful connections, all made possible thanks to our regional hub coordinators, partners, event hosts, and dedicated community members. Across geographies and generations, Ocean Week Canada 2024 saw nearly 400 events take place in all provinces and territories. Throughout these events, culture, language, knowledge systems, and history were celebrated in unique ways. Ocean Week Canada 2022

Ocean Week Canada debuted as a small (all virtual) pilot in 2021, and became an official annual event in 2022. Ocean Week Canada took place June 3-12, 2022 and kicked off a summer-long Ocean Festival (unique to 2022) intended to lay a foundation of ocean awareness as Canada geared up to host the Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5) in Vancouver.

IMPAC5 Ocean Festival

The Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition (COLC), together with a team of collaborating partners, co-led events at IMPAC5 that brought the public into ocean conservation conversations across generations, across cultures and languages, across backgrounds and experiences, across Canada and the globe. This included the Ocean Festival – a two-day outdoor public celebration attended by over 10,000 people.
