June 7th 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Victoria, British Columbia
Metchosin ArtPod invites you to this four-part, all-ages ocean-themed adventure afternoon on the beach on Sunday June 7th from 1pm-3pm. First we will tune our senses with dancer and movement coach Anthea Browne. Then we will explore the beach with marine biologist Laura Verbege looking for ocean creatures and processes, learning about the wonders of the natural world. Thirdly we will work with ArtPod artists Memet Burnett, Marylou Wakefield and Khione Gardiner to create some beach-inspired land art. Lastly people will have a chance to create short, 3-line haiku poetry led by artist and poet Memet Burnett.
We will be photo- documenting all these activities as part of a CRD project grant! https://metchosinartpod.ca/ocean-week-event-june-7-2026/
Please carpool! Use washrooms at Metchosin ArtPod Art Gallery and check out the current exhibition: Distracted Abstraction https://metchosinartpod.ca/abstraction/ (at 4495 Happy Valley Rd– en route from Victoria, about 5 min from destination beach) and/or grab a treat at My Chosen Cafe at corner Happy Valley Rd and Metchosin Rd, and use washrooms there (also 5 min from beach). **There are no public washrooms at the beach and somewhat limited parking, but it is so worth it to visit this gem of a location.**
