____________

Who breathes out of their butt? Who has “eyes” on the end of their arms? Learn all this and more during our family marine intertidal exploration.

Join environmental educators Maina Pertolas and Stephanie Chong as we practice being good neighbours to our ocean friends. Get an up-close look at some of the creatures, learn about what makes them special, and discuss how we can keep their homes healthy.

____________

Instructors: Maina Pertolas & Stephanie Chong

Environmental educator and professional photographer Maïna Pertolas (she/ her) has a talent for explaining things in creative, yet totally relatable ways. She has a gift for engaging young minds and has an unbridled joy for learning. She has worked on, coordinated, and photographed numerous education programs at non-profits in the Lower Mainland and Sea-to-Sky region. In her spare time, you’ll find her reading 1000 books, wandering the beautiful Squamish landscape with her camera, or curling up with her 2 dogs and cat. Maina was born and raised in France and is now calls unceded Sḵwx̱ú7mesh territory her home. https://www.mainapertolas.com/

For over 15 years, environmental educator Stephanie Chong (she/her) has coordinated learning and education opportunities at museums and science centres in Canada and the United States. She believes strongly in encouraging curiosity, a joy of being outdoors, and a communal understanding of environmental responsibility with everyone she works with. In her spare time, you’ll likely find her wandering around the intertidal zone looking for wiggly creatures. Stephanie is originally from the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations (“Vancouver”) and has been fortunate to call the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples her home for just over a year.
