Sea Kayaking & Intertidal Exploration
Date: June 2nd
Start Time: 12:00 PM
Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours
Location: Oak Bay Marina
Organized by: Ocean River Sports, in collaboration with Dakini Tidal Wilds
Celebrate Ocean Week with a unique coastal experience that blends adventure and education! Join us for a scenic paddle from Oak Bay, followed by an engaging beachside session on seaweeds with marine biologist Amanda Swinimer of Dakini Tidal Wilds.
We’ll start with a guided 1 hour and 45-minute kayak tour, pausing midway at a local beach for an intertidal exploration. Amanda will introduce you to the remarkable world of seaweeds found in the Salish Sea—sharing insights on identification, edibility, nutrition, culinary tips, spa uses, and their ecological importance.
After the session, we’ll paddle back to the marina, completing a memorable outing on the water.
All skill levels are welcome. Space is limited—registration is required.
This activity is weather-dependent. For safety reasons, if conditions are too windy or otherwise unsuitable for paddling, we may need to cancel the tour. In the event of a cancellation, participants will be notified in advance.
