Science in the Park – ‘Ocean Discovery Day’

June 8th 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Nanaimo, British Columbia

Presented by Nanaimo Science

In celebration of World Oceans Day, Nanaimo Science will host Ocean Discovery Day – Science in the Park at Departure Bay Beach in Nanaimo, BC. This free, family-friendly event is supported by Ocean Week Canada and will offer a variety of hands-on, educational activities that explore the wonders of our local marine environment and promote ocean literacy and stewardship.

Participants will have the opportunity to examine marine life up close through a seaweed touch tank, complete with microscopes and visual aids to help identify local seaweed species. A one-hour interpreter-led program will guide attendees along the shoreline, teaching them how to use identification guides to recognize marine species and understand their ecological roles within the intertidal ecosystem.

This event is part of a national effort to celebrate and connect Canadians to the ocean during Ocean Week Canada.
