Celebrate our oceans and our ocean life at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery! In a joint celebration of Spot Prawn Day and World Oceans Day 2025, the Cannery is hosting a day of art, education, and sustainability-focused action! From 10:00am – 4:00pm, join us for a Sustainability Expo and get up close and personal with experts in marine life, ocean conservation, sustainable farming and food growth, and more to learn all about how we are supporting our lands and waters, and how you can too! Visit educational booths from Parks Canada’s Southern Resident Killer Whale outreach team, Ocean Legacy, Trish Talks Fish, and more, to explore our ocean life, the seafood we eat, and how we can protect them.
Looking for some hands-on activities? In addition to the indoors outreach expo, the Cannery will be hosting a gyotaku art workshop with international artist, Paula Nishikawara. This fish printing technique was traditionally practiced by Japanese and Nikkei fishers, and has grown into the beautiful art form we know today! Drop in at the workshop station in front of the Cannery entrance to try printing with real fish, and leave with a beautiful, and sustainable, new art piece!
Don’t miss out on these, and other, exciting activities at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery on June 7
th as we explore seafood and sustainability together!
*Psst… we know World Ocean Day is officially June 8—but we’re diving into the celebrations a little early on June 7!
