As part of Ocean Week Canada, students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 at Memorial Academy in Botwood will take part in a special education day focused on marine life, Species at Risk, and the importance of protecting our world’s oceans.
DFO Fishery Officers will visit the school to speak with students about marine species found in Newfoundland and Labrador waters, the role healthy oceans play in our daily lives, and the importance of conservation and stewardship.
Students will also participate in an interactive game demonstrating how plastic bags and other marine debris can affect sea creatures. This hands-on activity will help young learners better understand the impact of pollution and the small actions we can all take to help protect marine environments.
This event provides a fun and engaging opportunity for students to connect with ocean conservation and learn how they can help care for our oceans, coastlines, and marine species.
