On Wednesday, June 4th, students from École Marie-Esther (district scolaire francophone Nord-Est) will dedicate their afternoon to a vital environmental stewardship project. In partnership with Verts Rivages, a local environmental organization, these students will focus on two key initiatives to protect local coastal environment.

First, they’ll participate in a crucial beach cleanup,  removing litter and debris. Following the cleanup, the students will engage in an essential dune restoration project. They’ll be replanting Ammophila breviligulata, commonly known as sand grass. This hardy, native grass is crucial for coastal ecosystems as it thrives in sandy environments, playing a vital role in dune formation and stabilization by capturing and binding sand with its extensive root systems.

This collaborative, hands-on experience will provide École Marie-Esther students with a tangible way to contribute to environmental stewardship while learning firsthand about the importance of healthy coastal ecosystems.
