Adrift and Uprooted: Impacts of Hurricanes and Tropical Storm Strengthening in the Atlantic Ocean- Installation in Mermaid Tears Seaglass Festival- Souris PEI

July 26th 10:00 AM - July 27th 4:00 PM
Souris, Prince Edward Island

In this exhibit of “Adrift and Uprooted”, attendees will be able to interact with a throne of driftwood, created by furniture maker Robbie Gallant.

After building connections with audiences through music for 25 years, Robbie moved to Prince Edward Island and began creating functional furniture out of reclaimed materials from PEI beaches and salvaged barn board.  His knowledge and skillsets developed into a full time business in furniture making, where he has designed unique and functional pieces that have a common goal- to last for generations. His wife, Lindee Gallant, worked in the research science industry for 8 years, while honing her photography and writing skills in her free time. The two consider the environmental impact of the products that they create on a day to day basis, often doing things the hard and inconvenient way to minimize their environmental footprint.

The piece aims to build a connection with participants, and highlight the power of the ocean to impact our daily lives.  The piece includes a written component based in the science background of Lindee, with the intention to foster a deeper connection and understanding of the piece with the audience.  The goal of the piece is to have participants walk away empowered to notice where they can make meaningful changes in their interactions with the waterways and stimulate deep and meaningful discussions around community involvement on an environmental level!

The exhibit is part of a wider, annual event known as the Mermaid Tears Seaglass Festival and we are so happy to be able to come alongside this already established and wonderful event to show this beautiful piece!
