Ocean Week Halifax

May 27th
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

*en anglais seulement*

Save the date! The Canadian Network for Ocean Education (CaNOE) is happy to announce that they will be hosting four (4) one-day symposiums across the country. Each location will focus on a different aspect of ocean education in Canada from eco-tourism to Indigenous traditional knowledge.

CaNOE is proud to embark on a multi-location symposium in 2023; incorporating different locations across Canada to engage with and learn more about residents’ relationship with the global ocean. Each location provides unique learning opportunities from innovative ocean technology to Indigenous ocean pedagogies; aligning with UN Sustainable Goals. Participants will strengthen their ocean knowledge and connectivity amplifying an overall more sustainable Blue Economy.  Through regional in-person experiential sessions, educational and networking opportunities, CaNOE will elevate ocean education programs across the country. Access of material from each symposium will be available to increase outreach and reduce the overall carbon footprint. Together, we aim to support one another in helping people understand their connection and impact on the ocean and its impact upon us.

The goals of the conference are to:

  • Network, discuss and learn new content and ocean education strategies
  • Share activities, lessons and resources that embrace diverse ways of knowing and learning for ocean education in the classroom community and beyond
  • Explore and discuss current issues in marine and aquatic science, and the role of place, language and culture in informing solutions
  • Discover resources and information from communities and organization that value healthy marine and aquatic ecosystems, and how they can be incorporated into ocean and aquatic education
  • And many more!

The first symposium scheduled for May 27 th, 2023 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is presented in partnership with the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE) and will highlight the role that ocean technology and industry plays in advancing ocean literacy for Canadians. More details and registration information will be made available in the coming months.

Stay tuned for news about stop #2 on the cross-Canada ocean education journey!
