Ottawa, March 21, 2024 — Ocean Week Canada returns June 1 – 9, 2024. Building on last year’s collaboration between 235 organizations, an estimated 500,000 Canadians will take part in festival events from coast to coast to coast. Events are dedicated to strengthening societal connections with the ocean and the waterways leading to it.
Ocean Week Canada brings artists, knowledge experts, educators, filmmakers, storytellers, water recreation enthusiasts, community and cultural leaders together with businesses, organizations, and public institutions to engage and connect people with the ocean.
Events focus on topics such as marine science and Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas, biodiversity, climate change, oceanic food and culture, human-ocean health connections, blue economy careers, and more. Celebrations include media availability with experts, educational, citizen science, and multimedia experiences, as well as music, art, storytelling, and recreational activities for all ages.
Event registration is open now. A complete list of events and activities will be available at OceanWeek.ca, including information about the Ocean Week Canada regional hubs in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Cambridge Bay (NU), Halifax, Fundy (NB), and St. John’s. The website contains toolkits and video collections to help parents, guardians, teachers, and other community group leaders incorporate ocean knowledge and stories into activities during Ocean Week and throughout the year.
