Kitselas Lands and Resources (KLRD) is continuing their second year of hosting an annual community event celebrating the “Harvest Kick Off”.
Within this community event, KLRD focuses on ensuring continuity of traditional knowledge transfer, providing opportunity to both non-Kitselas and Kitselas members to learn about Kitselas adawx (adawx – respect law, knowledge transfer in relation to traditions, culture, and resource stewardship).
In hopes of educating all ages about marine habitat, KLRD will be presenting multiple materials such as semi-annual magazines (with various articles on marine life and stewarding), our fishing app for members to apply for their annual fishing permit and record catches, and introducing our Kitselas Stewardship Education Centre, which revolves all around marine stewarding.
We have invited groups that work with our department to present including Gitselasu Stewardship Society and Wai Wah Environmental. Our attendees will receive a forum type presentation from our guest speakers on culture preservation (G.S.S) and environmental science and stewardship services (W.W.E). Our event will be split up into schedules allotting time for open discussion, door prizes, presentations and walk around engagement to different booths provided by guests and all sections within KLRD (Reserve Lands, Resource Stewardship, Emergency Services, GIS, Project Assessing).
