High Seas Treaty

The high seas, also known as international waters, make up half of the world’s surface and 65% of the global ocean’s surface area, as well as 90% of its volume. Despite their significance, the high seas are currently unprotected. The High Seas Treaty seeks to address this by establishing the world’s first international law to protect marine life in areas beyond national jurisdiction, and Canada has yet to ratify this treaty.

Stop Plastic Pollution

Approximately 90% of plastic waste in Canada ends up in landfills, incinerators, lakes, parks, and the global ocean, harming wildlife and the environment. While individual action is crucial, national and international efforts are necessary as plastic production and pollution increase. Canada and other countries are in negotiations for an international treaty to regulate global plastic production, but the agreement is not yet finalized.
