Impact

Since the official launch of Ocean Week Canada in 2022, this national celebration has grown in both size and reach. In 2025, 318 events were held across every province and territory, with 558 partners collaborating to bring the ocean to communities across Canada—a 35% increase in partners from 2024! Regional hubs remain at the heart of this effort, with 10 hubs hosting 195 local events, while 123 events took place outside of hub regions. The ripple effects of Ocean Week Canada continue to grow stronger every year.

Ocean Week Canada 2025

The 2025 Ocean Week Canada celebration (June 1–8) brought people together through 318 events across the country and online. With 558 partners and 10 regional hubs, this year marked the largest coordinated ocean engagement initiative in Canadian history. Together, we celebrated culture, science, art, language, and local knowledge, creating a truly coast-to-coast-to-coast wave of connection and action.

Ocean Week Canada 2024

The Ocean Week Canada 2024 celebration (June 1–9) reached new heights, with nearly 400 events hosted across all provinces and territories. For the first time, 10 regional hubs worked together to create meaningful local impact while connecting to a larger national network. Over 411 partners contributed their creativity and leadership, marking a 75% increase over 2023. The 2024 Impact Report highlights the incredible diversity of events that celebrated the ocean through culture, science, and community connections.

Ocean Week Canada 2023

2023 was a year of rapid growth and collaboration for Ocean Week Canada. With over 230 events and 6 regional hubs, communities embraced the ocean through festivals, clean-ups, art shows, and educational programs. The 2023 Impact Report reflects how local initiatives built momentum for a nationwide celebration and inspired new partners to get involved.

Ocean Week Canada 2022

After a small virtual pilot in 2021, Ocean Week Canada officially launched in 2022 with events held June 3–12 across the country. That year also featured the unique Ocean Festival, a summer-long series of activities leading up to Canada hosting the Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5) in Vancouver. This milestone year laid the foundation for the thriving annual event we see today.

IMPAC5 Ocean Festival

As part of IMPAC5, the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition (COLC) and partners brought thousands of people together for the Ocean Festival in Vancouver. Over 10,000 attendees experienced art, science, culture, and conservation in an interactive, two-day outdoor celebration. This event showcased Canada’s leadership in ocean protection and public engagement on a global stage.
