“Waves of Connection” – Celebrating the Ocean in High River

June 8th 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
High River, Alberta

Come celebrate the Ocean and Navy Day of both Canada and Mexico! This unique event highlights the joint efforts to protect marine ecosystems—especially those involving species that migrate between Canada and Mexico, such as the gray whale, leatherback sea turtle, and northern elephant seal.

You’ll also learn about Nucycles, a Mexican company that leads an innovative textile recycling project focused on bio-education and raising awareness about ocean and marine species conservation in Mexico.

In addition to the in-person event, we will be sharing virtual content throughout Ocean Week Canada (June 1–8) on our social media platforms:
Facebook: IRERI–Mexican, Latino & Cross-Cultural Society
Instagram: @ireri_mlccs

This content will feature:

  • Whale sightings along Mexico’s coasts
  • Insights from Mexican professionals working to protect marine biodiversity
  • Stories that inspire ocean stewardship and cross-cultural environmental education
