Get ready for some outdoor adventure at Sage Creek School in Winnipeg, because Watersheds Canada and Ocean Week Canada are bringing some very exciting backpacks to campus!
As part of the launch of the Nature Discovery Backpack lending library, students in Grades 1 through 6 will take part in a series of fun, interactive workshops that bring science and nature exploration right to their doorstep. Each backpack is stocked with exploration tools, field guides, and Water Rangers testkits, giving young learners everything they need to investigate the natural world around them like real scientists.
Thanks to equipment funding from Water Rangers, the workshops will feature hands-on freshwater testing using a Water Rangers education testkit, adding an exciting community science element to the mix. Students will discover the local nature and species that share their community, and learn about meaningful actions they can take to help protect them.
The best part is that the backpacks don’t stay at school. Once launched, they will be available for families to borrow and explore with at home, turning every outing into a new discovery.
From the freshwater ecosystems of Manitoba to the oceans beyond, these young explorers are just getting started!
