Ocean Wise x Vancouver Maritime Museum: Canoe Cultures

Ocean Week Vancouver

June 8th 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Vancouver, British Columbia

Ocean Wise is proud to present an education exhibit to help celebrate the thriving Canoe Cultures of local Nations at Vancouver Maritime Museum on June 8th.

Indigenous communities have a long-standing relationship with the waterways of their unceded territories, and the canoe helps demonstrate their continued presence. Coastal Indigenous life exists in harmony with marine life; their understanding of sustainable harvest acts as a key case study for Western conservation practices.

Join a team of Ocean Wise educators to explore the features of marine habitats in the Pacific Northwest via a collection of marine artifacts that you can touch and examine. Your deepened connection with local marine life will help ignite conversations on Indigenous knowledge and actions that you can take to help promote ocean health.

This exhibit is offered for free thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, and requires no registration!
