June 8th 2023 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Vancouver, BC, British Columbia
Join us on World Ocean Day, June 8, at 7 PM (PDT) at SFU Harbour Center Campus for a live-streamed presentation from Fisheries and Oceans scientists exploring seamounts, hydrothermal vents, and cold seeps of the deep sea off the British Columbia coast.
The deep sea is the world’s least explored ecosystem, with strange and wonderful marine life found nowhere else on Earth. Canada’s newest proposed marine protected area, Tang.ɢwan – ḥačxwiqak – Tsig̱is, will protect these habitats from bottom trawling, deep sea mining, oil and gas activities and ocean dumping.
Watch the expedition’s findings on a big screen at an SFU theatre, chat with scientists over the video feed, and enter to win door prizes.
This special presentation with Ship2Shores is hosted by Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – British Columbia (CPAWS-BC) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
