Fogo Island, Newfoundland and Labrador
Fogo Island’s World Ocean’s Day Celebrations will take place at the Iceberg Area on June 10th from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. The Town of Fogo Island, alongside Shorefast Foundation, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Harbour Authority invite community members of all ages to come out and enjoy a day of fun, while showing appreciation for our oceans and all that live within it.
There will be a public presentation hosted by Oceana Canada at 2pm, and multiple interactive and informational booths set up that feature:
- Seabins
- Marine clay sculpting
- Children’s Arts/Crafts
- Shell Observations (microscope provided)
- Touch tank with a live stream camera view
- Ocean Atlas Interactive Data Platform
- Food & Drinks
Additionally, the “Ocean, Freshwater and Us” giant floor map will be available for use with interactive activities that help us understand our oceans and waterways, as well as the impact they have on our everyday lives and the overall health of our environment. We graciously acknowledge the support of the Canadian Network for Ocean Education and Marine Institute for their role in facilitating activities with a focus on an Ocean Literacy curriculum.
Everyone is welcome to join this free fun filled event.
