June 5th 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Town of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia
Come join us on 5 June at our beautiful waterfront during Ocean Week Canada to collect marine debris and contribute valuable data to national monitoring efforts.
A collaboration between the Town of Qualicum Beach and the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI).
Meet at Kayak/Paddleboard Launch site near Shores Restaurant on the Waterfront https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZgLu2ucWztrYgv217
This local event invites residents and community members to participate in monitoring and removing marine debris while building a deeper connection to our shoreline and ocean environment.
The survey will focus on identifying, collecting, and categorizing marine debris and microplastics. Data gathered will contribute to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP), which supports international efforts to track coastal pollution and inform effective management practices .
This initiative promotes environmental awareness, encourages citizen science, and supports data-driven policy development to protect coastal ecosystems. With the help of volunteers, MABRRI plans to continue long-term monitoring efforts and contribute to broader environmental databases on marine debris and microplastics.
Join in to protect our coastline, contribute to science, and be part of the global movement to safeguard our oceans.
