On June 8th and June 9th, Shorefast Foundation will host the students of Fogo Island Central Academy to celebrate World Ocean Day with a “Day Under the Sea”.
The goal of this event is to engage students between all grades (K-12) to educate them on ocean ecosystems, and how all life is interconnected. On the first day, students will first be trained separately on various aspects of the ocean food chain, from forage fish to larger marine mammals, etc. On the second day, all students will come together to play out an interactive activity in which they each take on a role within the food chain. We graciously acknowledge the contributions of the Canadian Network for Ocean Education and Marine Institute for the role they played in developing these activities.
Additionally, the “Ocean, Freshwater and Us” map will be temporarily installed at the school for teachers to book out for their classes. This is a closed event, created specifically for students at the Fogo Island Central Academy.
