Diego Narvaez

About The Artist

Diego Narvaez was born in Mexico City. He lives and works on Vancouver Island, BC. Through his work, Diego reflects on contemporary landscape while creating visual metaphors of how we, as society, construct reality through sight and how this affects our relationship with the environment. He has painted in different surroundings and conditions, from Antarctica to Iceland, Mexico City to the West Coast of North America. Narvaez has presented solo exhibitions in important venues in Mexico. His latest exhibition, Nature’s Sprawl – Urban New growth was presented at Art Sales & Rental in the Vancouver Art Gallery. Collectively, he has participated in exhibitions in Canada, Mexico, the USA, Argentina and Spain. He is now collaborating in projects involving scientists, indigenous artists and local communities to address our relationship with the land and the oceans.

Frank Muller-Karger

Frank Muller-Karger is a Professor at the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science, specializing in coastal and marine ecosystems, climate change, and human impacts. He uses remote sensing and fieldwork to study changes in marine life and co-leads the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON) and the UN-endorsed Marine Life 2030 program. He’s published over 340 scientific papers, received the William T. Pecora Award, is a AAAS Fellow, and served on the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy. He promotes science and technology for environmental conservation and enjoys painting and boating.

Claudia C. Baron-Aguilar

Claudia C. Baron-Aguilar is a PhD student at the University of South Florida studying indigenous community networks. A Wayuu community member from northern Colombia, she holds a Marine Biology degree from Colombia and a Marine Science master’s from USF. She co-founded the nonprofit Capi Baron in 2015 to support her community’s basic needs and serves as the Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) representative for the Marine Life 2030 program, bridging science with indigenous needs.

Dwight Owen

Dwight Owen is the Impact and Capacity Development Manager at Ocean Networks Canada (ONC), where he focuses on education, outreach, and opportunities for Early Career Ocean Professionals. Since 2008, he has led art-science initiatives, including ONC’s Artist in Residence program, and served as Associate Director of Learning & Community Engagement from 2022–2024. He previously spent over a decade with the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, developing science training programs.
