Science Rendezvous is back full-scale at the Leon’s Centre (an indoor arena in downtown Kingston) on May 13, 2023 for its most ambitious event to date.

Join the Queen’s University Faculty of Education for a special event, Geography: The science of where. We will play host to Ocean Week Canada giant floor map, “Ocean, Freshwater and Us”, in collaboration with the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition and Canadian Geographic Education. This giant floor map (11m x 8m) is made for walking on, allowing you to understand the ocean and waterways by physically experiencing them! Augmented Reality, 360 video, and other interactive activities will help bring this giant map to life! You can walk along the map to follow the flow of water across Canada, exploring your own connection to the ocean. Discover the growing network of Marine Protected Areas and learn about the life that lives around, and within, these many waterways.

In addition, we will also be hosting Esri Canada to showcase the power of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to understand our past and present to create a better future using the science of where.  A local Limestone District School Board geography teacher will also demonstrate drone technology and Geospatial Thinking in today’s Geography classrooms.
