September 7th 2022 - September 29th 2022
Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia
From September 7 through September 29, 2022, the Students on Ice (SOI) Foundation will embark on our first Ocean Conservation Expedition. This extraordinary expedition will bring together diverse educational and research partners, Indigenous community representatives, artists, industry, media, and youth to showcase the wonders of these areas, and provide a platform for research and stewardship of coastal and marine environments, including Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs).
The Ocean Conservation Expedition will take place aboard the Polar Prince, an Indigenous-owned expedition vessel provided by Miawpukek-Horizon Maritime Services, who have partnered with SOI for our education, research, and ocean conservation programming. As the ship travels to distinct, remote and critical marine environments, the platform will allow project partners to: build relationships and partnership capacity, foster stewardship legacies, showcase the importance of the sustainable blue economy, ocean literacy, and ocean conservation during the UN Decade of Ocean Science for sustainable development, and much more.
