Hakai Institute scientists and the False Creek Friends Society, in collaboration with the City of Vancouver and other local organizations, are organizing a scientific BioBlitz to take place in Vancouver’s False Creek in early September 2022! We will be leading related activities in False Creek from April to September 2022—kicking off during iNaturalist’s City Nature Challenge—to raise awareness of the biodiversity of this unique urban area and to provide meaningful opportunities to involve the local community. We are excited to see what can emerge when scientists and community members connect to document biodiversity in the traditional and unceded territory of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish Nations. The boundary of this project is the historical shoreline, identified by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, of what is now known as False Creek. How to participate: 

1. Create a free account through iNaturalist.ca or the free iNaturalist app 
2. Record photos or sounds of plants and animals you see in and around False Creek 
3. Upload observations to iNaturalist! Observations made within the project boundaries will automatically be captured within this project.
