Straddling the worlds of art and science, Dessine-moi un lac immerses us in the fragile and fascinating world of Quebec’s lakes. Through the voices of researchers, artists, and a child narrator (Dohan Vigneault, reciting the text by his great-grandfather Gilles Vigneault, J’ai pour toi un lac), this short film invites us to see and feel the beauty of a natural heritage in flux.
From aerial shots to underwater explorations, from inhabited shores to microscopic worlds, the film offers a sensitive look at lake ecosystems and the very real threats facing them, such as blue-green algae blooms.
Filmed over the course of four seasons, this immersive journey explores the ecological, social, and emotional dimensions of our connection to lakes. Vibrant imagery intertwines with insights from scientists at the University of Montreal and the University of Quebec in Outaouais (Canada Research Chair in Ecological Economics), while highlighting the hopeful actions taken by committed communities.
Dessine-moi un lac is a sensory and socially conscious work that reminds us that understanding science is the first step toward loving and protecting our surroundings.
