Join BlueAct Marine Society for our Ocean Action Weekend— a community shoreline cleanup followed by a live seine net demonstration highlighting the incredible biodiversity found along our coastline and the importance of ocean stewardship. Visit Tidepools Aquarium from June 5th to 7th to check out our Ocean Action Hub for information about our BioBlitz and beach cleanup. On June 7th, we’ll begin at our Ocean Action Hub with conservation displays, citizen science information, and a short introduction, then walk together to the beach cleanup and seine net location.

June 5th: BioBlitz Launch (Running All June)

Become a citizen scientist! On Friday, June 5th, we are officially launching our month-long BioBlitz. We’re asking everyone to use the free iNaturalist app to document and collect data on local marine and coastal species right here in Gibsons. It’s a fun, impactful way to help researchers track biodiversity—plus, those who collect the most data throughout June will be eligible for some great prizes. Find instructions on how to use iNaturalist will be at our Ocean Action Hub Table, located right outside Tidepools Aquarium, Friday-Sunday.

June 5th & 6th: Ocean Action Hub

Stop by the Ocean Action Hub table located right outside Tidepools Aquarium on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Come meet the team, learn about the vital conservation work BlueAct Marine Society does year-round, and pick up details for Sunday’s events. Inside the aquarium, with purchase of admission, you can also join the fun with our Conservation Bingo!

June 7th: World Ocean Day Celebration

Sunday is our main celebration day, packed with interactive activities for the whole family. Join us for a day of learning, art, and community action:

12pm – Welcome & Intro: We kick off the celebration with an opening introduction and a special conservation video screening.

Beach Clean Up: Help us keep our local shores pristine. If you just bring your own gloves, we’ll take care of the rest.

Seine Net Demonstration: Get a close-up look at local marine life as our team demonstrates traditional seine netting and shares insights about the incredible creatures living just off our shores.

Animal Feeding in the Aquarium: After the beach clean up and seine net, support the aquarium by purchasing admission to see a public animal feeding! You might get to see Opal the Octopus.

3pm – 4pm – Tidepools Art Show & Auction: Explore the final hours of the 70+ unique works of art and place your final bids before it closes. This community fundraiser raises vital funds for hands-on marine education and stewardship.
