Ocean Week Quebec is partnering with Voces Boreales for their concert on the St. Lawrence River, a musical evening inspired by the power and history of this great waterway.
To mark its 20th anniversary, the vocal ensemble Voces Boreales presents Du Saint-Laurent vers le large, a concert that highlights the river as the true backbone of the Quebec region – a source of inspiration, stories, and connections between cultures.
This program is part of a threefold celebration – the 490th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s voyage, the ensemble’s 20th season, and Andrew Gray’s ten years as artistic director – and offers a sensitive exploration of water as a living, universal force.
Featuring major works from the contemporary choral repertoire, including R. Murray Schafer’s Miniwanka, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi’s Canticum Calamitatis Maritimae, and Peter-Anthony Togni’s Sea Dreams, the concert will culminate with the premiere of Omì (“water” in Lucumí) by composer-in-residence Luis Ernesto Peña Laguna.
An evening that is both intimate and grand, where music becomes a bridge between the waters of the world and those of the St. Lawrence.
