Waves of Emotion: Exploring our Relationship to the Ocean Through Art

Ocean Week Victoria

June 4th 2025 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Victoria, British Columbia

Join local artist and climate advocate Sabrina Guzman Skotnitsky at the Ecologyst Victoria for an evening of creative exploration of our relationships to the ocean. Sabrina’s initiative Creating Climate Resilience supports community members to develop emotional resilience to climate change through arts-based approaches and community building. On June 4th Sabrina will guide participants through conversation and artmaking to express our feelings about marine species and environments and enhance our connections to the sea. This is a free event as part of Ocean Week Victoria. Artmaking materials and snacks will be provided! This workshop is capped at 15 participants, so please RSVP early to secure your spot.

About the facilitator:

Sabrina Guzman Skotnitsky M.A. is a climate justice advocate, artist, researcher and facilitator residing on the unceded and ancestral territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. She has been part of the climate movement since she was 15, and has worked for environmental organizations from coast to coast on a range of projects related to climate policy, green jobs, and youth leadership. Through her Master’s research in Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria she explored how visual artmaking and dialogue can help youth process climate anxiety and related eco-emotions. This led her to found Creating Climate Resilience, a project aiming to increase people’s emotional resilience to climate change through knowledge mobilization, community-building and arts-based climate emotions workshops.
