Talk and Unveiling | Rock Island and the Carmantine | Verdun-sur-Fleuve Festival – 3rd Edition

Semaine de l'océan Qc

June 12th 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Verdun, Quebec

This event is part of the 3rd edition of the Verdun-sur-Fleuve Festival organized by Demain Verdun.

This talk invites you to discover Verdun’s Rock Island and one of its unique residents: the American sea-blite (carmantine d’Amérique). Héritage Laurentien will share the story of their efforts to protect this small but essential plant that plays a vital role in the health of the river ecosystem.

A narrative map created by Verdun artist Annabel Howard to tell this story will be unveiled during the event.

HÉRITAGE LAURENTIEN is a non-profit organization that promotes the natural heritage, habitats, and biodiversity of the St. Lawrence River through an environmental, collaborative, and community-based approach.

FESTIVAL VISION | Verdun-sur-Fleuve is a chance to come together and celebrate the great river that borders our neighbourhood and our island city. More than just a neighbour, the river shapes our landscape and acts as a connector for the community of Verdun, the Greater South-West of Montréal, and all of Québec—carrying us toward the ocean.

The river becomes a way to reflect on our identity, our future, how we live together, the species we share the city with, how we interact with the river, and our responsibility to protect the environment.
