Ocean Soundscapes

June 5th 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Winnipeg, Manitoba

Our event will be a night of ocean-inspired art, learning about marine protection, the fragility of the Arctic ecosystem, and the importance of protecting Hudson Bay.

Rob  Knaggs will be playing cello live alongside a video montage of Churchill’s marine environment. Each composition will be enhanced with engaging stories of his interactions with beluga whales, how he created these video artworks and his connection to the ocean.

Rob Knaggs is a celebrated musician known for exploring the deep interconnection between people and water, evoking emotion through music, and inspiring people to take action in conservation.

Not only will audience members be immersed in the ocean soundscape but they will have the unique opportunity to take part of a participatory art piece.

An additional video composition will be created during the event where participants are encouraged to share their relationship with the ocean, express emotional responses, and share the importance of marine conservation. Video testimonials will be overlaid with ocean imagery and original compositions by Rob.

We aim to help Manitobans understand and express their connection to the ocean while inspiring them to take action to preserve it.

We also hope this event can work as an opportunity to connect the south to our northern coast, its peoples and wildlife. Artisans from Northern Manitoba will be invited to the event to participate as well as sell their crafted items.

As an organization, CPAWS Manitoba is dedicated to giving wildlife a voice and protecting their habitats for the future. We aim to foster a deeper understanding among Manitobans of our connection to the ocean and inspire action to preserve it for future generations.
