What is Blue Schools Canada?

Blue Schools Canada (BSC) is the national hub of the Blue Schools Global Network, an international initiative aligned with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). Our goal is to promote ocean literacy and climate action through education. Our work aligns closely with the UNESCO-led Education for Sustainable Development and Greening Education Partnership initiatives. By connecting educators, students, and communities across Canada (and globally), we aim to foster collaboration and empower individuals to become stewards of the ocean, freshwater systems, and climate.

 

Mission

Our mission is to provide training, resources, and support for educators to integrate ocean and climate education into their classrooms and to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and agency to become informed and engaged citizens who can address ocean and climate challenges.

 

Core Principles

Blue Schools Canada supports learner-centred transformative education. We foster environmental awareness and community action. We recognize Indigenous sovereignty and strive to take respectful action through educational programs for ocean and freshwater conservation.
