Event Overview:

In a collaborative effort, Miscou Island—a community with deep ties to the fishing industry—is proud to host an eelgrass planting event as a highlight of Ocean Literacy Week. This initiative, spearheaded by Ghost Gear Disappear Inc. alongside Nature NB, The Nature Conservancy of Canada, and various community partners, is set to revitalize the sea floor within Miscou Island harbour. Our goal is to intertwine the threads of conservation and livelihood, nurturing both the marine environment and the community’s connection to it.

Why Eelgrass?

• Educational Presentation & Demonstration: Begin the day with insights from Ghost Gear Disappear Inc. and our partners, delving into the ecological importance of eelgrass and mastering the techniques for successful planting.
• Hands-on Eelgrass Planting: Join forces with fellow conservationists and community members in a hands-on effort to replant eelgrass, directly aiding in the recovery of our ocean floor habitats. It’s an empowering opportunity to contribute to a cause greater than ourselves.
