2021-2030 marks the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The ‘Ocean Decade’ provides an opportunity and common framework for the global community to work together to transform ocean-climate knowledge into action while ensuring the sustainable and equitable use, management, and conservation of the ocean.
The global ocean literacy community has the essential role of transforming society’s relationship with the ocean through the Ocean Decade. Improving public understanding of the ocean and the life-sustaining role that it plays will help achieve a global commitment to the sustainable use and protection of the ocean by 2030 and beyond. Inspiring behavioural change and action in people living in Canada and around the world is required to ensure a healthy ocean for generations to come.
