Ocean Week Canada 2023 is coming to communities across Canada in June

Organizers expecting 500,000+ participants

Ottawa, May 25, 2023 — 

WHAT: Now in its second year, Ocean Week Canada 2023 is a week-long festival of events and activities promoting ocean awareness across the country. This year’s celebration includes a travelling Giant Floor Map AR experience, classroom science talks, art exhibits, water quality testing, shoreline tours, and concerts. 

Participants in Ocean Week Canada 2023 can explore a range of ocean-themed topics, including: 

  • Marine conservation including Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas 
  • Ocean careers and the Blue Economy
  • Marine and freshwater biodiversity 
  • Climate change and weather emergencies
  • Ocean science communications and the arts
  • Food, culture, and heritage

Acclaimed director James Cameron’s DEEPSEA CHALLENGER will be on display in Ottawa beginning June 5.

WHO: More than 500,000 people in Canada are expected to attend Ocean Week Canada events hosted by 100+ partners.

WHEN: Ocean Week Canada is June 2 – 11, 2023. It coincides with the internationally celebrated World Ocean Day, June 8. 

WHERE: More than 100 locations across Canada, including Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, High River, Vancouver, and Victoria. A complete list of events is available at OceanWeek.ca.

HOW: Media are invited to browse the events list on OceanWeek.ca to find listings in their regions and help inform the public about the ocean and ocean issues. The website also contains toolkits and video resources that educators can use to bring Ocean Week Canada to the classroom.
