Geneviève Dupéré

Geneviève Dupéré navigates at the confluence of maritime vitality and acrobatic performance.  She will present her work-in-progress From River to Stage featuring écH2osystème, a documentary-type performing arts project. The title refers to the marine ecosystem of the St. Lawrence River, to the richness of its waters, and how it echoes in our society.

Over the past twenty years, Geneviève has worked in circus arts, street theatre, and opera. She has served as acting specialist for the Cirque du Soleil and aerial co-choreographer for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremonies in Sochi.  From 2015, she re-oriented her work toward the St. Lawrence River through her role as director of the artistic, historic, and marine content of Avudo, the flagship projection event for Montreal’s 375th anniversary.  She has travelled extensively along the St. Lawrence River on scientific expeditions to create écH2osystème.

Through her work as a doctoral candidate at UQAM, artistic-researcher at CRITAC (the Centre for Research, Innovation and Transfer in Circus Arts), and professor at the National Theatre School, Geneviève pursues research-creation as a dynamic way of knowing, based on a complex ecosystem of which we are part.
