This year, ACAP Saint John and two passionate artists are turning the tides on World Oceans Day with a unique art showcase aimed at weaving together creativity and environmental consciousness. The celebration, happening on June 10th at AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village, Saint John will spotlight the mesmerizing allure of our oceans and the urgent need to protect them from threats like microplastics.
The artists are harnessing their talents to create compelling pieces that communicate both the beauty and the fragility of our oceans. Each art piece tells its own story about the sea. For example, Indigenous artist Cass’s artwork would give a deep dive into the critical issues of plastic pollution and microplastics. « I aimed to create a piece that not only shows the harm we’ve caused to our oceans but also inspires viewers to reflect on their own actions, » Cass explains. « People often don’t realize how much our consumer habits and the way we live affect the planet. »
The event’s theme, « Rhythm of the Deep: Harmonizing Humanity and the Sea, » underscores the vital link between us and the ocean. It reminds us that the ocean’s well-being is our well-being. This World Oceans Day, they’re not just creating art; they’re sparking conversations and fostering a wave of awareness. We invite you to join them in this artistic exploration and be part of creating a tide of change for healthier, cleaner oceans. Remember, the journey starts with awareness, and the destination is sustainability.
