Come celebrate World Ocean Week with STEAM PEI’s family friendly event in downtown Charlottetown (8 Stan MacPherson Way) on Saturday 10th June 2023! The event will be filled with fun, hands-on, experiential activities for youth and families. Some themes we intend to explore include the living beings in oceans, climate and oceans, ocean conservation and the importance of oceans to humans, culture and our way of life. Our knowledgeable Education Facilitators will be present to provide information and guide the use of our stations. Some of our stations/ activities include:
STEAM PEI’s Touch Tank Exploration (all ages)
STEAM PEI’s brand new touch tank will be launched at this event. Come experience our ocean creatures up close!
The Ocean under a Microscope (all ages)
What about the creatures we can’t see in our ocean water? At this station we will take a look at the microscopic creatures that live in PEI’s ocean water.
Sea Turtles (all ages)
Learn about the significance of the turtle in Mi’kmaq culture and tradition at our turtle rug station!
Oculus Underwater (all ages)
Our virtual reality Oculus station will let you explore underwater ecosystems right in our space!
CLIVE Sea Level Rise Simulator (all ages)
STEAM PEI will partner with the UPEI Climate Lab to explore PEI’s coastline and the impacts of sea level rise.
Design and Build a Fishing Rod (all ages)
Use your creativity and imagination to design your own unique fishing rod, reel, and lure to catch a specific type of fish found in PEI.
