The Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup is celebrating Ocean Week in Canada, happening June 3-12, 2022. This includes hosting a community cleanup in Toronto on Wed, June 8. You’re invited to mark the occasion with the Shoreline Cleanup and participate in a national effort to reduce the impact of litter on shorelines, in parks and anywhere else where water meets land (think storm drains in your local community!).
Signing up is easy, and there are two ways you can volunteer:
Canadians produce an astounding amount of garbage – recent data shows that per capita, Canada ranks number one in the world for garbage production. An alarming portion of this waste ends up polluting the environment. Join the Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup and tackle this major issue.
The Shoreline Cleanup is one of Canada’s most effective efforts to clean up pollution, and this year the program looks forward to welcoming its one millionth volunteer! Last year, an outstanding 19,508 participants completed 1,998 cleanups, and recovered 31,522 kilograms of trash from Canada’s shorelines.
Canada’s shorelines need your help. Register to lead or join a cleanup in your neighbourhood, and receive comprehensive guidance on how to volunteer. You’ll even be provided with a data card to help track what you recover – valuable data for researchers and municipalities looking to uncover more ways to tackle shoreline litter.
