The United Nations has proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This decade aims to support efforts to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and create improved conditions for sustainable development of the Ocean. To achieve its ambitions, the Ocean Decade needs to cut across geographies, cultures, generations, and recognize and address gender disparities in ocean science for long-lasting and impactful change. A continued effort to ensure diversity and gender inclusiveness in ocean science is essential to unlock opportunities and foster the much-needed transformation in ocean science.
